The plot follows Marsh and Helene, the sole survivors of a botched Martian landing, as they grapple with the responsibility of creating a landing strip for the arrival of additional ships. With only seventy days to prepare and a plethora of mechanical and psychological obstacles to overcome, they must collaborate to navigate their daunting environment while coping with their personal grief and the implications of forming a new relationship. As they fight against the clock and the unforgiving terrain, their bond deepens into a mix of love and necessity, leading to profound developments in their interdependence and the realization of what survival truly entails. Ultimately, the novel highlights both the technical challenges of space exploration and the emotional resilience required to endure such isolation. (This is an automatically generated summary.)
